Notes

6. Alexander Campbell

The 1860 census for Alfred, Allegany Co., NY shows living in the Alexander Campbell Household in addition to Alexander:
Johnathan age 34, farm labor born in Mass.
Mary Maley age 30 House Labor, born in Mass. (Could this be the Mary Baker mentioned in Sarah Campbell's obit as a sister and she had been married to a Maley before a Baker?)
Anna Maley age 2 born in NY

The 1850 Census for Alfred, Allegany Co., NY shows in the Alexander and Hepsey Campbell houshold, in addition to Sarah
Phebe, age 11

Found Alexander and Hepseybeth Campbell listed in the Allegany County Historian's office taken from LDS Microfilm 1411774 that they are buried at Alfred Rural Cemetery, Allegany Co., NY. Contacted the Alfred Rurual Cemetery Caretaker to inquire if they were indeed there or if there was a misake. On 5/7/02 I received the following back from her:
Hi Shirley,
I have all three in the records for Alfred Rural, don't know why a stone would be in Andover.
Cyrenus is listed as the owner of the plot (8 spaces) #393. He is in space 6, buried in 1929 at age 87.
Alexander was buried in 1868 at age 79 in space 7.
Hepsabeth (Mrs. A.) was buried in 1857 at age 61 in space 8.
FY I, Also in that plot, space 3, is Amy Maybury died in 1936 at 78 years, and Mary Campbell Baker died in 1923 at age 94. Neither of these have markers according to the book. Space 1,2 and 5 are empty!
That means that Cyrenus was 16 when Hepsabeth was buried. Seems strange that he would buy a plot at age 16?
I didn't go to the Cemetery to see if there were stones for them, but I could, if you want me to. Tis a mystery for sure!
Hope this helps.........Let me know if I can do anything else for you,

THEORY: Alexander and Hepsabeth Campbell were buried at Kruesen Cemetery (formerly known as Krusen Cemetery) in Andover, and then moved when State Road 36 was constructed. Several graves at Kruesen were moved at that time, so it would make sense that Cyrenus would then have been old enough to own the graves.

THEORY: This might explain why the 1820 census for New Ashford, Bershire Co., MA shows 6 people living in the Alexander Campbell household.
